The Academic Choir of Gdańsk University of Technology, founded in 1965, performs mainly a cappella sacred music as well as oratorios of different styles and eras from renaissance to contemporary. The choir has rich concert activity in the country, as well as abroad, and has participated in many choral contests and festivals with great success.
Mariusz Mróz has been the conductor and leader of the choir since 1992. Together they prepared over 110 oratorio concerts, recorded 3 CDs and won numerous awards. Some of their most recent achievements include: Gold Medal at the 3rd World Virtual Choir Festival in Bandung, Indonesia 2021, 2nd place at the International Festival of Orthodox Church Music Hajnówka 2021, Grand Prix at the XX Feliks Nowowiejski’s International Festival of Choral Music in Barczewo 2021, 1st place at the VI International Review of Academic Choirs “Holy Cross 2022”, 1st place and Gold Diplomas at the 2nd Riga Sings – International Choir Competition & Imants Kokars Choral Award 2022, Gold Diploma at the 34th Stanisław Ormiński International Festival of Religious Music 2022, Grand Prix at the 58th International Choral Song Festival in Międzyzdroje 2023, and Gold Diploma at the Ohrid Choir Festival 2023. Choir has also been nominated twice for the Grand Prix of Polish Choral Music in Poznan in 2021 and 2023.
