The choral group at the Palace of Students of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute was founded in 1951. From 1980 onwards, the conductor of the choir was Professor Oleksandr Petrosyan. In 1982 the choir took part in the all-Union Festival of Arts “Student spring” in Leninakan (now Gumri, Armenia).

In 1985 it participated in the 12th World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow. Between 1983 and 1987, the ensemble took parts in different festivals in Soviet republics and Poland. It also received the Choral Collective from Georgia.

In 2008 the choir resumed its work with the active support of Leonid Tovazhnyanskyi. Rector of the NTU Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. Nowadays, university graduates from the 1980s are singing in the Chamber Choir together with the young generation of students.

In 2009, 2010 and 2014 the Chamber Choir won the festival «Student spring» in Kharkiv. In January 2010 the Chamber Choir took part in the 18th all-Ukraine Festival of Spiritual Chants «From Christmas to Christmas». In April 2010 the Chamber Choir became the winner of the 3rd World Choral Festival “Chorus Inside” n Moscow.

On 1 June 2010 the Minister of Education of Ukraine Dmytro Tabachnyk signed the order assigning the Chamber Choir of Kharkov Polytechnic Institute the rank of a national art ensemble.

In January 2012 the Chamber Choir participated in the all-Ukraine festival “Great Christmas Carol” in Lviv. In May 2012 the Chamber Choir won the first prize at the all-Ukraine festival Dnieper's Spiritual Chants in Dnepropetrovsk. In September 2013 the Chamber Choir won second prize at the international competition and festival “Southern Palmyra” in Odessa. In July 2014 the Chamber Choir received Grand Prix at the 2nd Gavriil Musicescu Competition and Festival in Iasi, Romania.


Feliks Sokol

Feliks Sokol graduated in 2000 from a secondary specialized musical school where he studied Spatiality-informed Conducting in Aleksey Koshman’s class. Subsequently, he enrolled on the first course that was offered at the Ivan Kotliarevsky Kharkiv State University of Arts and signed up for Agnessa Miroshnikova's class. At the same time he started working in the Kharkov Regional Philharmonic as a singer of the Philharmonic Chamber Chorus under the leadership of the famous choral conductor Vyacheslav Palkin. During his studies he took part in different choral festivals and competitions in Ukraine (Kharkiv, Kiev, Lviv, Odessa, Theodosia, Sumy, Poltava, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhe, Kramatorsk, Pryluki) and abroad (Cincinnati – USA; Warsaw, Poznan, Hajnowka, Bialystok, Lublin – Poland; Madrid, Burgos, Santander – Spain; Kristiansand, Stavanger – Norway; Debrecen – Hungary; St. Petersburg, Belgorod – Russia). During his time as a student he also participated in the Student Choral Conductors Competition organised by the chair of the Choral Conducting Department.

In 2005 Feliks Sokol graduated from the Kharkiv State University of Arts. In 2008 he started working as the head of the Chamber Choir at the NTU Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. In October 2011, 2012 and 2014 he took part in the choral festival Holy Protection’s Voices in Kharkov. In 2010 and 2012 he took participated in the grand opening ceremony of the International Film Festival “Kharkov Lilac”. In November 2011 Feliks Sokol was accepted as the member of the Kharkov office of the National All-Ukraine Musical Union.
