The Student Choir of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Fine Arts (WPA) at Adam Mickiewicz University in Kalisz is a mixed choir performing both a cappella and vocal-instrumental repertoire. Its members are all students of the Artistic Education in Music program, making it one of the pillars of comprehensive musical training. The choir performs at university ceremonies and faculty concerts, and sings for audiences in Kalisz at events such as the Kalisz Choral Festival, “Kolęda dla Kalisza,” and symphonic concerts.

Since the 2019/2020 academic year, the conductor and lecturer has been Prof. AMU Dr. habil. Joanna Piech-Sławecka. Under her direction, the choir has recorded projects including Gaudeamus Igitur—a recording made for the 55th anniversary of the University of Niš (Serbia), in collaboration with the Academic Choir of the Student Cultural Center of the University of Niš and friends—as well as Christmas carols with the Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chamber Choir of WPA AMU.

In the 2021/2022 season, the choir took part in the Viva Calissia concert, and in the 2022/2023 season in the philharmonic concert Przybieżeli do Betlejem. An important task of the ensemble is preparing repertoire for the diploma examinations of second-year master’s students. Thanks to the long-standing cooperation between AMU and the Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra, these exams take the form of vocal-instrumental concerts.

Joanna Piech Sławecka

Joanna Piech-Sławecka – conductor, choirmaster, oboist, speech therapist, and voice emission coach. She is associated with the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, where she graduated in oboe under Prof. Krzysztof Wroniszewski and in conducting under Prof. Janusz Stanecki (with distinction), as well as completing postgraduate studies in speech therapy at the Higher School of Humanities and Journalism in Poznań.

Since 2002, she has collaborated with the Chamber Choir of Adam Mickiewicz University – currently serving as its second conductor and as a professor at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Fine Arts of AMU in Kalisz, where she leads a conducting class. She is a co-founder and conductor of the project choir ProVocalis, as well as the musical director of the female soloists’ ensemble Sanctimonialis autem femina, which performs works of the Polish Baroque written for female ensembles and rediscovered in post-Benedictine libraries.

Joanna Piech-Sławecka also works as a consultant, vocal coach, and choirmaster in theatrical projects, the most notable being Hymn to Love, directed by Marta Górnicka. With this musical production, she has performed on major European stages, including in Switzerland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Greece, and Italy. She is currently collaborating with the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin on the production Still Life. In the 2021/2022 season, she serves as a guest choirmaster of the Choir of the Łódź Philharmonic.
