The ensemble was founded in 1972. Under the baton of Zoran Stanisavljevic, the new conductor since 2012, the choir won two Dr Vojislav Ilic Awards in the categories „Best Choir“ and „Best Conductor“, the first prizes at the Choral Festival „Horovi medju freskama“ ('Choirs among frescoes') in Belgrade. The Choir's repertoire covers a wide span of pieces from various epochs and styles. The ensemble has given more than 1100 concerts in over 200 towns at home and abroad: Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Czech Republic, Greece, Cyprus, Belgium, Macedonia, Republic Srpska, Portugal, France, Italy, Ukraine, Russia. They performed at the prestigious Rachmaninoff Hall in Moscow and in many other venues. The latest collection of prizes and awards includes the Grand Prix in Jalta 2003, the Grand Prix for spiritual orthodox music and title of laureate of the first degree for the performance of a secular piece in Moscow in 2004. Apart from participating in many radio and TV shows, the ensemble has recorded two LPs and four CDs.
Zoran Stanisavljević is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts, University of Nis. He studied conducting under professors Jovan Sajnovic and Darinka Matic-Marovic at the Faculty of Music Art in Belgrade. So far he has conducted the Nis Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra “Stanislav Binicki” from Belgrade and university orchestras. He founded the Female Choir of the Students’ Cultural Center at the University of Nis, with which he has already accomplished several noticeable performances at home and abroad. He has also recorded for Radio Television of Serbia.
